Cupcakes

Yes I know I have been neglecting my blog.

I guess I don't feel like I have a lot to write about. But I am committing to being more creative when it comes to sharing what i have been doing.

Here is a project I decided to try. From the book What's new Cupcake? I wanted to make their apple cupcakes for the beginning of the school year for my Jr. High students.

Supplies:
1 box of cake mix
1 Can of Vanilla Frosting
Red food Dye
Red Sugar
Red cupcake liners
Green Taffy
Carmels
A Pizza Cutter
Mini Chocolate Donuts

Make the cupcakes as directed on the box. (sorry for poor pictures they were taken with my phone)

Let cool
Mix the frosting with the red dye
Cut the bottom off the mini donuts

Frost the top of the cupcakes and place a donut in the center. Place in freezer for about 15 min
Then frost the whole cupcake filling in all the holes and covering the whole donut. It's ok if it does not look perfect, the sugar covers up a lot.
Then take the frosted cupcake and dip it in the sugar until completely covered
Then role out the caramel to make the sticks.
Role out the taffy (use powdered sugar to avoid sticking) and use the pizza cutter to cut out leaf shapes. Place the stems and leaves in the center of the cupcake.
Over all they turned out better than I expected and were actually easier than I thought. Now I need to go clean up the kitchen...

  1. Super cute!! And even cuter on your green plates!

And yay for updating your blog more. It may seem like you're not doing anything "blog worthy".... but even if you just post a pic of you guys sitting on the couch watching TV with Carla, I at least feel like I'm part of your daily life and caught up with what you've got going on :)

    Keep 'em coming!!

    Love you!
