Andrew was on a camping trip with the boys for the weekend.
I had my Jr. High girls over for a sleepover and then babysat my niece and nephew for the night.
During that weekend, there was a little something that was supposed to make an appearance that never showed up. (mind you, I have never been late a day in my life)
So Monday afternoon I warned Andrew that I was heading to Fred Meyer to pick up a pregnancy test.
Can I just interject here, that they give way to many options and variety for us women to choose from. It is completely overwhelming and confusing. I mean what if you pick the "subpar" version and don't even know it. When you are buying a pregnancy test you should not have to be worrying about all those different variations. And aren't they all basically the same anyway? o well
I ended up picking one that looked the most familiar from commercials and also was not 100$. Holy cow those things are expensive.
So home I went. I quickly read over the instructions (this is really not something you want to screw up) and then I waited.
The results actually come a lot quicker than I thought they would. You can pretty much see something instantly.
I watched the first pink line appear (the control) so at least I picked a test that works. I sat their for awhile staring, secretly hoping that the second pink line would show up.
Hmmm well I guess I am just late. I texted Andrew and told him he could breathe a little easier since the test was negative. He responded, "I am actually a little sad." "Me too" I said.
As the week went on that little monthly friend still had not come and the box says that if that to wait a week before taking another one.
Well if you know me, I was not wanting to wait a whole week. Especially since that weekend we were going on our community group retreat. I did not want to be thinking about it all weekend. So Friday morning (I hear morning pee is most filled with the hormone) I took the test while Andrew was getting read for work. This time as I watched the control stripe appear, i began seeing just the faintest hint of a second line. We are talking very faint. But still there.
I was still skeptical at this point. And never before that moment had I realized the frustration people talk about when it comes to faint lines on a pregnancy test. Now I wish I has gotten one of the fancy digital ones.
So being me I began to drink lots and lots of fluids so I could take another one as soon as possible.
My first clue should have been that less than an hour later I really had to pee again. I do not normally have to go the the bathroom every hour...
Back to the bathroom for the third and final test in the package. Thank God this one was more clear
I sent Andrew the picture of the clearer line (of course being him he knew I was pregnant with the faint line. I just needed to be really sure) He immediately started planning how we will manage jobs and insurance and finances after the little bundle of joy comes along.
He did tell me that a couple weeks ago he would have thrown up at the though of being pregnant already, but then all of a sudden God had given him a peace about having a baby before he even knew about all of this.
So long post, but there it is. I think I will be due around August. I will have my doctor's appointment in January. Still waiting for the office to call me back with a date.

ReplyDeleteTwo things for future reference... first, the dollar store has tests that work just as well. Second, any line = positive... no matter how faint it is. But like you, I probably would have taken 3 tests "just to be sure", too! Haha!!! SO happy for you guys and I can't wait to share this experience with you!
